Vipassana Dhura, Phar Auk Monastery (18-Mile) is
a branch of the Phar Auk Meditation Retreat Center. It is located at 18 miles and 3 furlongs along the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway in Hlegu Township.
A signboard indicating the monastery can be seen at this location, making it the closest spot to Yangon on Yangon-Mandalay expressway.
The monastery spans over 100 acres of land, offering a vast and serene environment.
Foundation of the Monastery
The monastery site was first surveyed on Wednesday, 20th June 2012 (Waxing Day of Waso) by the presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kunda and the family of U Ba Aye and Daw Hla Kyi.
Subsequently, the Phar Auk Sayadaw and Nayaka Sayadaws officially designated the site as a monastery on Tuesday, 26th February 2013 (Waning Day of Tabodwe).
The monastery was founded when U Ba Aye and Daw Hla Kyi donated 100 acres of land to the Phar Auk Sayadaw with a land-donation ceremony as a meritorious deed.
The foundation of the monastery and its development were made possible through contributions from devout donors, including the following:
1. Planting of Maha Bodhi tree
2. Construction of access roads
3. Tree planting across the grounds
4. Excavation of ponds and reservoirs
5. Construction of a Pāsādika pagoda
6. Building the Vipassana Meditation Hall
7. Erecting the Phar Auk Sayadaw’s residential monastery
8. Constructing the presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kunda’s residence
9. Building the monasteries for monks
10. Establishing a dining hall
11. Constructing a library and Pitaka hall
12. Building dormitories and meditation halls for female yogis
13. Excavating underground wells and ponds
14. Donating water purification systems
